Thanks for all the wonderful comments and suggestions on my last post! You guys are great :D So many awesome ideas, thanks!

Now, as promised, here is my second outfit WIP.

What I had in mind for this one was a little bit of batcave, a little bit of Beetlejuice, a little bit of (horror)punk. And after my friends helped me hunting down the perfect striped jersey at the fabric market, the pants part was easy. I took the pattern from an old pair of leggings and the rest was done in a few minutes. Now all I need to learn, is how to wear them so the stripes actually point straight down xD.

Inspiration for the tunic/dress was this dress. I love the shape but not so much the print and the sleeveless-ness. So I shamelessly stole the shape by using my favorite T-Shirt pattern and added some length at the bottom. Instead of slits at the back I sliced the sleeves. Stretchering the hem while serging it gave it the right wrinkly effect. It also has two pockets with a little bow on top.

I really like how it turned out. What was missing is a print on the shirt. I wanted to combine another two dress crushes and ended up using this stencil.

Ever since I saw this tutorial I was eager to try it. Good thing though, I tested it before ruining my dress.

That’s the result. Meh, not pretty. Maybe it was because I was not using real Mod Podge, maybe the motive I chose is just too big/detailed, maybe I just failed.

So, I was back to freezer paper and my shiny new crafting knife.

Here is a little tip: after ironing on the paper first retrace the outlines of your stencil with a small brush, then fill in the rest. After it dried a little, get a sponge (I use a dish sponge) to add another layer of paint, it will give you a smoother result.

Tadaa, I have successfully been boob-grabbed by a skeleton ^^. I’ll be wearing it with combat boots and another hairpiece.

What’s left to do to finish this outfit?

- Hairpiece (cyberloxx, felt dreads, etc)
- Jewelry

To the craft room!

Liebe Grüße, Trisha
P.S. The next outfit is coming soon ^^.

If you’re wondering where I’m hiding these days the answer is easy: In my craft room, getting ready for the WGT (Wave Gothic Treffen). I’ll be helping out the Cyberloxx team, again. I can’t wait, we had such a great time last year.

But other than last year, I’m planing on dressing up a little more. I felt pretty lame in the thick of all those pretty, stylish people ^^. And if you know me a little, you know I LOVE to gussy and goth myself up. So for the last few weeks I was pretty busy planing, designing and sewing outfits but now time is running out. I only have a few days left to finish everything. Until yesterday my craft room was a chaotic nightmare with a million unfinished projects lying around everywhere, little me in the middle, losing track on what is what, what is missing and when the hell am I supposed to do all this… ARGH xD

So, I thought I should start by putting everything on neat little piles.

While doing so, I also cleaned the whole room. Wohoo!

Okay, let’s see what I have and what I have left to do:

Outfit #1

I made bloomers from dark purple/black taffeta and I love them to pieces. I could walk around in them all day, every day ^^. I took the pattern from old PJ pants, since you need a oversized pants to get the puffy-ness ^^. I was really paying attention to details here, adding bows and satin ribbon and lace and of course garters ^^.

The rest of the outfit is pretty simple: a Cyberloxx shirt, tights, stockings and a (very cheap) corset. I am not sure about the corset, though… we’ll see. What do you think?

So what I still need to do for this outfit:
- make the hairpiece
- buy/shred tights
- decide on shoes.

Yay, that sounds not too bad ^^.

I’ll tell you all about the next outfit tomrrow. For now I need some food and a couple of z’s.

Who of you will be at this year’s WGT? Make sure to come by the booth and say Hello :D

Liebe Grüße,
Trisha

Hi, I’m Trisha and I suffer from “SSD”… Severe Skirt Deficiency! It’s serious, I tell you ^^. So I recently re-fashioned two new ones for some first aid treatment.

Skirt No. 1 was made from PJ pants I bought recently. I didn’t like them too much, but pattern and color convinced me after all and I had to buy it. With the help of Thera’s Rock’n'Roll Ruffle Skirt tutorial I gave it a new purpose in life and me a new super cute skirt. (I ended up getting rid of the ribbon, later on.)

Seriously, how cute can one pair of ex-PJ-pants get?

Skirt No. 2 is a skirt made from a skirt. Skirtception! I bought this one a million years ago in Camden Market, London. I loved it to pieces but as it wouldn’t fit me any longer I put it on the “stuff to wear once I’ll lose weight” shelf and moved on. Now that I have lost weight I rescued it from said shelf (in a dramatic and heartwarming reuniting scene!) only to learn two things:
1. It was too big xD
2. The length looked super awkward on me o.O

To make a long story short, I made a long skirt short and now it’s my new favorite thing to wear! It’s sexy, its poofy-ness balances out my figure and my mom called it “too short”. Score, score, score!

Next order of business: re-fashion some old band shirts into rad skirts, as the amazing Natron teaches us here. w00t!

Liebe Grüße, Trisha

Against common beliefs I am not dead, nor am I hiding under a rock somewhere. I have survived a very busy March only to be thrown off track by a stupid stomach bug that is my unwanted companion since Easter now… Urgh, I know… I haven’t eaten a decent meal in nearly two weeks, lol. So annoying. But as I am slowly recovering I’m constantly fantasising about all the awesome things I will eat and bake and cook and sew and do and shop and travel to when I am better xD. Pathatic, I know! Why is it, that I’m always the most creative when I can’t do anything about it?

Anyways, I just wanted to let you guysknow I’m okay and back to blogging and shit ^^. Missed you!

Yes, it’s me! Trisha ^^. I totally survived my week in the fascinating but freezing North and didn’t fall off the face of the earth after all. Phwe, I know, right!
I had a wonderful time, Finland is such a beautiful country and I can’t wait to share all the pictures with you. But for now I have to sort out so many personal things, I don’t know where to start, ahh. March is a busy month and I need to focus all my energy on non-blogging/Internet projects for a little while. But I will be back asap, I promise! There is so much I want to share with you, lol.
So, stay with me, awesome readers, okay? I love you all!

Dear readers of Mary Sew, I’m Lu from luloveshandmade and lovely Trisha has invited me to prepare a guest post for her blog. :) Here’s the recipe for my favourite cake in the whole world, my mum’s chocolate cake! :)
Have fun while baking it and feel free to ask me if you’ve got any questions. :)

Ingredients:

A spring form pan for your cake
8 eggs
210g / 7,41oz butter
200g / 7,05oz sugar
140g / 4,94oz dark chocolate
110g / 3,88oz breadcrumbs
120g / 4,23oz ground hazelnuts
½ package of baking powder

Ingredients for the icing:
40g / 1,41oz butter
70g / 2,47oz chocolate
4 table spoons of sugar
4 table spoons of water
Sprinkles (optional)

Take the butter out of the fridge the evening before you start baking (or use margarine)! :)
When you start baking, separate the egg yolk from the egg white.
Beat the egg whites in an extra bowl until they are stiff. Next, put the butter, the 8 egg yolks and the sugar into another bowl and stir the mixture really long until everything is totally creamy.
Next, melt the chocolate and add it to your dough. Also add the breadcrumbs, the ground hazelnuts and the baking powder. Finally, carefully fold in the stir egg whites; this makes your dough extra soft!

Bake the cake for about 60 minutes at about 180°C / 356°F; insert the baking sheet with the cake on it into the lower third of the oven.
Afterwards, let the cake cool down for a while and then make the glaze.
Therefore, use a small pot. Put all ingredients for the glaze into it (butter, chocolate, sugar and water) and carefully melt everything while you are stirring. Afterwards, directly pour the glaze over the cake and spread it all over it. :) After the glaze has cooled down just a little bit (but is still warm), distribute some colorful sprinkles all over the cake to make it even prettier. :)

That’s it! Have fun and thanks again for inviting me, I’m so looking forward to our next Berlin date! :)

In a little over two weeks time Mr Sew and I are going to visit our friends in Finland. We’ll board a plane that brings us to Tampere and from there we’ll hop on the train to the little cozy city of Jyväskylä (funny story: When my friend first told me where she’d move I asked her if that’s really the name of a city or if she just slammed her fist on the keyboard).
Anywho, we’ve wanted to go there last Summer but you know how life can be busy sometimes screwing up all your plans… So, it didn’t work out and we decided to go in winter and have a little taste of what might be an “arctic experience”, haha. The weather in Germany does its best to train us for our trip with temperatures of -10°C and below. Nice ^^.
My own preparations for this trip are a bit different. One thing was making us really really really warm hats from fake fur. And thanks to Burda it was not hard to find the right pattern.

I made my hat “inside out”, using the fake fur as lining and black sweatshirt cloth for the outside. Mr Sew wanted black, fake fur for the outside and soft, gray fleece to keep his ears cozy. The color/fur combination reminds me of a gorilla, somehow ^^. It was quick but messy undertaking. I hate sewing fur, I’ll be coughing up hair balls and brushing it off everything for the rest of the week xD.

The finishing touch was a black bow and a bear shaped button. I thought it was appropriate, since I really feel like a fluffy polar bear wearing it. Mr Sew rejected any embellishing objects on his hat. Pfft, lame, right?

One more for the camwhore in me ^^. (Yikes, I need a new coat O.o)

More “sewing-for-Finland” projects are yet to come (along with a million other things I want to do). But I’m still waiting for my fabric to arrive.
I’m so very excited for the trip. I can’t wait to <strike>wrestle elks and eat with brown bears</strike> go sledding and ice skating and just walk through the wonderful snow covered landscape with my awesome friends. Weeh!

Stay warm!

Liebe Grüße, Trisha

Welcome back to another episode of a zombie in the kitchen. And I have yet another birthday cake for you. Why is there yet another Birthday cake on the blog, you ask? Easy, this was the one I made for Mr. Sew’s belated second birthday celebration with his family a week later. You know, once you hit the big three oh the parties never stop ^^.
Anywho, I even have a recipe for you. The zombie is evolving ;).

Looks yummy, eh? It was super delicious! The recipe is my very own version of various vegan cakes I found online and I’m happy to share it with you today ^^.

For the cake you need:
2 1/2 cups wheat flour
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cacao powder
2/3 cups vegetable oil
2 cups vanilla oat milk (or soy/rice whatever, I prefer oat milk)
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
a pinch salt

for the frosting:
1 cup of vegan butter (margarine)
1 cup vegetable shortening (Germans, use Palmin Soft)
1/4 cup (vanilla) oat milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 cups powdered sugar
a hand full of sprinkles for decoration

(I use my fancy Cupcake Measuring Cups, it makes baking so much easier. If you don’t have those [or other means of measuring cups ;) ], just use Bakingdom’s or the Dutchovendude’s awesome weight conversion chart.)

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).

Mix the vinegar and milk and set aside for a moment. Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Get your milk-/vinegar mix and whisk with the oil, then combine the mix to your dry ingredients. Get out your hand blender and mix for about three minutes on medium settings.

Fill the dough equally in two well greased and floured round baking pans. Bake for about 35-45 minutes. The cake is done when you stick a toothpick in and it comes out dry. Let them cool comepletly before adding the frosting. Speaking of frosting, I borrowed the recipe for this cake from the Tofu Guru’s dalek cupcakes (with minimal changes)!

Mix vegan butter, vegetable shortening, oat milk and the vanilla extract with your hand blender. Add the powdered sugar one cup at a time until the frosting reaches just the right consistency. Spread the mix on one of your cakes (thin, remember, it’s super sweet and very rich ^^) and add the second cake one on top of it. Now happily frost the rest of the cake and cover it with colorful sprinkles.

Happy Noms!

Liebe Grüße, Trisha
