Featured: Meet the GothCupcake

Just barely home from the Gothic festival, I present to you the GothCupcake aka Mary. She makes stunning, morbid, cute and spooky things that are right up my alley and I am really honored to features her this week. Oh and look, we’re having the same hairdo xD

My name is Mary, I have a BFA in art, I’m vegan, and I love to bake!

Tell me a little bit about your crafts and what we can find in your shop?
Mainly my shop started out as a jewelry store, with odd handmade rings, necklaces and bracelets and since then has expanded to carry spooky journals, bondage plush, hair accessories and clothing.

Do you have any role models? What are (some of) your daily blog reads?
My role models and daily blog reads actually cross over! My list of role models for biz/crafts is rather long, but the main few are Johnny Cupcakes, MTcoffinz, AngryGirlGear, Poison Apple Shirts, Shrinkle, Twinkie Chan… and I know I’m leaving a few out, but there are more! My daily blog reads usually consist of Twinkie Chan and Shrinkle‘s blogs as well as OMGcow.

What do you do when you’re not busy making gorgeous things?
Coming up with new ideas, working on making my abode more spooky, trying new recipes, seeing new movies, hiking, and going on adventures with friends.

Tell me something totally random/stupid/adorable about you
I can move the tendons over the knuckles on my left hand.

Do you have any words of advice for aspiring indie artist?
If you have great ideas go for them! Don’t start out imitating other artists, being different is what gets you noticed as an artist! Join a craft community (for example, AttackoftheCraft.com) and make friends with other indie artists. Above all else, promote, promote, promote!
